Leigh Grammar Schools Heritage ProjectThe history of Leigh Grammar Schools
An eighteen month project to research the history of the grammar schools in Leigh and to collect, explore, preserve and share memories and artefacts supported by 3 paid heritage interns.
Led and administered by Healthy Arts with support from Wigan & Leigh Archives & Local Studies and Bedford High School. The project culminated in a Celebration Day which included an interactive exhibition of videos and artefacts, a debate about grammar school education and live performances by professional actors and schoolchildren recreating school experiences.

Just to say thank you to ALL the people who contributed, in any way, to make this a very special and memorable occasion. It is obvious that a lot of hard work and effort has gone into making the day flow so easily and professionally. The entire team can be really proud of their achievements. As a former pupil, I enjoyed meeting other students and staff, sharing stories and hearing their school experiences. The strict uniform rules were amusing to listen to and on my way to the hall, I was told off for wearing heels! Quite right too! Thank you, one and all. A wonderful celebration of our heritage.
